Prayers for a New Mom

Our friend, Sara is very brave. In January of 2009, she moved to London with her husband and 6 month old baby girl, Avery. She has flown trans-Atlantic several times alone with Avery. She and Josh are scheduled to be in London until January of 2011. Friday night, we read this post on her blog.

My heart is full. Please pray for her throughout her pregnancy. She is due October 21st, expecting a baby girl with Downs Syndrome, in a strange country, with medical professionals who aren't very nurturing.

Sara and Avery will be in Austin this weekend. We're making the drive down, through God's planning, I had nothing on the calendar other than Prom on Friday night. I need to hug her. I need to see Avery; Sara and Avery need to meet Gavin. I need to meet Pete and Lisa's son, Christopher. It will be a great weekend.

I don't think Sara ended up coming to Austin in May of 2010--or if she did, I must not have gone.  I don't recall.

Sweet Rylee, written about in the post above, arrived October of 2010.  Sara, Josh, Rylee, and Avery spent this past weekend with us.  Ry is small, but eating like a horse and full of energy.  She loves music and dances with both of her arms in the air.  We'll have pictures up soon when we blog about this past weekend.

9 Month-Day Picture

Gavin got to celebrate his nine month-day in Georgia meeting family and charming everyone. We didn't have his blue monkey with him for pictures, but we gathered up 9 toys from what we brought with us and what Grandma had that was age appropriate. I'm so glad Gavin is so easy going and good natured. He had a busy week and was a trouper. His naps were all messed up; he didn't sleep well at night; but, he was all smiles. (Well, mostly.)

In the past month, Gavin has gained a new tooth--his upper left tooth. We love his snaggle-toothed grin. I keep thinking the second tooth will be on its way, but we haven't seen it yet. I do think it is close to making it's debut since Gavin is running his tongue along the gum, more and more.

Gavin continues to be quick to smile. His laugh is infectious. He loves bath time and playing on the floor after his bath.

We're still introducing foods to him. His appetite is a mystery. Some days, he's hungry; others, not so much. Thursday night he ate all of his cereal (3T), finished a container of garden vegetables, bananas & strawberries, and sweet potatoes. He had previously eaten a bit of each of the containers of food, but hadn't finished them. But something happened Thursday night, and he was ready to eat. We've tried introducing table foods to him with mixed results. He loved cooked carrots from The Cotton Patch. He likes to be hand-fed pieces of bread.

I caught a glimpse of myself in Gavin tonight.
I've always been independent. Mama tells stories of my "I-can-do-it-myself" attitude that surfaced at a young age. I like things to be my idea.

First Baby Sitter

Gavin spent two hours with his first baby sitter today, Becky, Miranda's boss. She called yesterday, an especially fussy day for Gavin, and offered to give a two-hour respite today. We couldn't have agreed more readily. Aunt B arrived and whisked Mama and Dad out the door.

Hmmmm. . . . I wish I knew what we did for those two hours.  I guess I could check the credit card bill to find out . . . 

Football Finale

Yes, we've neglected the blog.  It's been crazy to say the least.  Dave's trying to juggle work and school and being a dad and being a husband.  It's no easy task.  I'm doing about 1/3 of additional work because we're missing an assistant principal.

I took a minute tonight to look for a post I started a while back.  When I found this.

Dave started it.  When I clicked on it, I lost the date.  I won't do that with the others I found.  I'll remember the date so I can  put it in the post.

These are pictures of CHHS vs Southlake in football playoffs.  It's in Cowboys Stadium, which is no more.  So, I think it's from Nov 2008, which would mean I'm pregnant.

More Minnesota

Here are a few more pictures from our Minnesota trip.  This was Gavin's second trip to the cabin, and the first time that he was old enough to go out in the boat and do some fishing.  He had a great time.

Free labor was leveraged to clear some of the downed trees that had fallen in a storm a few weeks ago.  Two of the trees fell on the roof of the new garage.  The roof is steeper than it looks.

 Gavin really enjoyed walking down the headwaters of the Mississippi in Itasca.  He spent a long time playing  in the water, and we had to pull him out because he didn't want to leave.  

We cooled off with some ice cream thanks to GrandBob.

Summer Food

I planted a garden again this year.  I have been moving the location of the garden around for several years hoping to find the right combination of sun and shade so that everything doesn't get cooked by the hot Texas sun.  We did pretty well considering I was probably 3-4 weeks late planting the garden.  Only the tomatoes, basil, and carrots did well.  The squash and cucumber plants died after a few weeks - they probably needed a bit more sun.

The tomatoes and basil combined for yummy buschetta all summer long.  Strawberry plants will go in this fall in hopes that we will get some berries in a couple years.

 I was also able to make some ABT's.  Those little dudes look so good.  I might have to make some more soon.

We also grilled some super colossal shrimp one afternoon....they were pretty awesome.

Photo Catch Up

Things are as crazy as ever with us lately.  Miranda (and Gavin) have started back to school, and I am back in graduate classes after a whole week and a half off.  Here are a few of our latest adventures from this summer.  

We went to Austin a couple times, and visited the Teitleman clan.  Gavin and Avery get along really well - look at the second picture....They held hands briefly at breakfast at Rudy's.  Then as we were headed to the park, Gavin asks "Can I hold Avery's hand on the way to the park?"  Cute kids...

Miss Rylee is as cute as ever, and probably the happiest baby in the world.....

 We stopped at Health Camp in Waco on the way back one time.  It's a local institution.  The shakes were delicious.

We found the largest gas station in the world.  This is a picure of just the pumps.  The inside of the station was half the size of a Wal Mart.  I'm not exaggerating.

 Gavin had some non-surgery performed.  He had a cyst in his mouth that was going to be removed.  After they put him under, the cyst was nowhere to be found...so no surgery - just a grumpy boy from the anesthesia.

 Cabela's is always a fun trip.

 We found a kid's aquarium in Dallas.  Gavin loved the jellyfish.

 My truck (the old girl) finally flipped over 100,000 miles.

 When Gavin wants a snack in the car, GAVIN WANTS A SNACK IN THE CAR!

Gavin took swim lessons this summer.  There were a few smiles in between the tears.

 We watched fireworks with the Hopkins' on the 4th.  G did NOT like the loud fireworks.

Gavin spend a week on the farm with Grandma Sandra and Granddaddy.  He had just a little bit of fun. 

He came back home worn out from all the fun.
