Itasca State Park

This post goes hand in hand with the Mississippi Headwaters post - it's all at the same park.

It is always amazing to me to see an old growth forest. The trees are substancially bigger than anything you will see outside of park lands. The park hasn't been logged since it's founding in 1891. There have been forest fires that have done extensive damage, but most of the old growth timber still remains.
There are of course smaller things to look at too.
This staircase is on of my favorite parts of the park. Do you think that anyone would spend the time or money to build something this grand in a state park today?
