Winter has reared it's ugly head across most of the country, and Texas wasn't spared from the cold weather this time. Lately, I have been trying to get out and fish for the trout that the state stocks in many local ponds. But the weather hasn't exactly cooperated with me.
Last weekend I waded the tailwaters below Lewisville dam. This is a very nice area with trails and long stretches of open river. I ended up catching three trout (only one was a keeper sized fish), and three small bass. Fishing was slow, but it's better than nothing when fishing in January. The temeratures weren't actually too bad that day...the water was about 45, with the air temp being about the same.
Today I decided to try a different spot in Denton. It was a balmy 26 degrees this morning when we started fishing, but finally warmed up to 35 around noon when we quit. At one point while walking into the wind, my eyes started watering and a tear rolled down my cheek and froze on my face! Needless to say, the fish didn't cooperate too well today. Three bites, but no fish to show for all that shivering.
Monday is the big day for fishing. Miranda and I are going on a guided striper fishing trip on Lake Texoma. The cold weather shouldn't effect the fishing since striper are cold water fish, but it is sure to effect the fisherman and fisherwoman. Forecast calls for showers with temperatures ranging from 36 to 53. We are headed to the sporting goods store tomorrow to gear up!
