Today is Dave's birthday. He left for Vegas this morning. After working at his company for 2 1/2 years, they're finally letting him to go a show. So, he is off to the Consumer Electronics Show; I'm sure he'll see all kinds of cool gadgets and wonderful TVs. He's been itching to get a new TV lately, this might put him over the edge.
Since he had to leave today, we celebrated his birthday yesterday. In true Dave fashion, we had to do some yard work first. So, we raked leaves in the backyard in the morning. After cleaning up, Dave decided he wanted sushi for lunch. Sadly, the place we went to dine closed at 2:30; we arrived at 2:35. The second sushi place yielded the same result, so Dave settled for pizza. We ran a few errands then went to the closing day of the ice sculpture exhibit at the Gaylord Texan. (We were disappointed with the show, but that's another story.)
About a month ago, Dave decided he wanted to cook at home for his birthday, so we steamed King crab claws and grilled two small filets. With all the food we had eaten throughout the day, there simply was no room for a slice of the three-layer coconut cake for dessert, hence birthday cake breakfast this morning.
I know this isn't the best way to start the day, but we have no young minds to corrupt. I happily sliced off two nice pieces of cake to serve as dessert to scrambled eggs. (I had to give Dave some protein before he headed off to Vegas; now didn't I?)
I haven't heard from Dave since he was standing in a cab line in Vegas that he claimed to be "literally a half-mile long". I hope he's having a good time. We'll celebrate his birthday again later this month when we go fishing with a guide on Texoma. I suppose not being home on your birthday has its merits.
What a BEAUTIFUL cake! Cake for breakfast sounds good to me--I have coffee cake for breakfast all the time.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think they could have let him stay a little longer out there. Cheap company!
Hope you have a good week.
