Grandma cooked for us: we had turkey breast and it wasn't even a holiday. Grandma took the late shift at nights, holding a fussy baby while Mama and Dad laid down to power up for 2am and 5am feedings. Grandma helped with Mason by applying ointment to his dry, cracked elbows. It was wonderful to not have to worry about doing the dishes, what we were going to eat for dinner, when we would have time to go to the grocery store, etc. Grandma was a true lifesaver for the new parents during the first few days.
GrandBob was helping out around the house too. He restored an antique piano bench that Dave bought at a thrift shop for $25. He reglued all the joints and is remaking a support piece that holds everything together. When finished, we will have a very nice looking side table. GrandBob also brought out a walnut crib that his dad built for Mike after he was born. It is a true family heirloom that we will cherish till another bundle of joy graces the family.
Then on top of all this help, they hauled our antique dresser back to Charlotte with them to sell in their antique mall. We were never too crazy about the piece, but it was a good deal that we couldn't pass up at the time.
We can't wait for them to come back and help out some more.
We hope that they know how much we appreciate their help and support!
O.K. You've made me tear up again. Would love to be there for that late shift. That was a really special time for me--I could stare at him all I wanted. Thanks to you two for letting us be a part of that special time. It meant so much to us. It has to be one of the greatest pleasures in life to see your child holding his child. Thanks for sharing. Love to all three of you.
